Singapore, June 5, 2025 — Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) continues to solidify its presence on the global stage by participating in the prestigious QS EduData Summit (EDS) 2025, held on June 4–5, 2025 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore. This participation marks an important step in UNJ’s ongoing institutional strategy to enhance quality and performance through the use of data and analytics, particularly in support of its positioning in the QS World University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds.

The EduData Summit is an annual international forum that brings together leaders in higher education, data scientists, and policymakers from across the globe to share best practices in leveraging data for institutional transformation. This year’s theme, “Connecting EduData: Aligning Data Science, Skills, and Innovation,” underscores the critical role of collaboration between data science and innovation in addressing the evolving demands of education in the digital era.

UNJ was represented by Tian Abdul Aziz, Ph.D., Head of the Sub-directorate of Information Systems and Rankings, who actively participated in panel discussions, technical workshops, and networking sessions. His involvement reflects UNJ’s commitment to strengthening the accuracy and relevance of institutional data — a vital component in QS World University Rankings assessments.

“UNJ’s participation in EDS 2025 is not just symbolic, but a strategic move to gain deeper insight into the global standards and dynamics of university rankings. Data is not just numbers — it’s the foundation for strategic decision-making within the university,” stated Tian Abdul Aziz, Ph.D.

The summit featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, including Darrell Lian (Business Manager, Kontinentalist Singapore), who highlighted the power of data storytelling; Prof. John Chi-Kin Lee (President, The Education University of Hong Kong), who discussed educational transformation in the AI era; and Dr. Georges Yahchouchi (President, American University of the Middle East, Kuwait), the official host of the event and a key figure in advancing higher education in the Middle East.

UNJ used this forum to explore both technical and strategic aspects of institutional data reporting that align with QS Ranking indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, and internationalization. The workshops attended included topics such as data validation techniques, the development of analytics dashboards, and strategies for effectively communicating data to global stakeholders.

Moreover, UNJ engaged in benchmarking best practices from leading universities worldwide in data management and ranking strategy design. Through direct interaction with data experts and QS representatives, the university gathered insights into adaptable approaches to enhance its international competitiveness.

In recent years, UNJ has demonstrated a strong commitment to becoming a globally recognized university. This goal is being pursued through continuous improvements in academic quality, increased international publications, expanded global networks, and the modernization of data-driven academic information systems. Participation in EDS 2025 is seen as a strategic effort to accelerate these advancements.

Additionally, UNJ held direct consultations with the QS team (Mr E Way Chong and Mr Samuel Wong) to receive technical feedback on institutional data reporting and strategic positioning — a crucial step in a highly competitive global landscape where transparent, accurate data underpins institutional performance and credibility.

With a collaborative spirit and a firm vision of internationalization, UNJ aims to translate the insights gained from EDS 2025 into actionable policies, programs, and innovations that will boost its standing in future QS World University Rankings.
