Shanghai, Humas UNJ  – Delegation from Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Mutia Delina (Manager of International Cooperation Affairs) and Sri Rahayu (Secretary of International Office), engaged in a productive discussion with Dean of Faculty of Education, Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) Huang Haito and UNESCO Expert on International Educational Survey Zhu Xiaohu on Monday, 8 December 2025. The central focus of the meeting was to solidify and expand collaborative frameworks for student exchange, specifically targeting summer exchange programs and master students’ exchanges.

The discussion, held at SHNU’s campus Guilin Road, marks a significant step in strengthening the internationalization efforts of both institutions. The talks centred on creating structured pathways for students to gain cross-cultural academic experience and enhance their global competencies.

Key Outcomes of the Discussion:

1.Summer Exchange Program Development: Both parties advanced plans for a targeted summer exchange, allowing students from UNJ and SHNU to participate in short-term, intensive academic and cultural programs during the summer break. The curriculum is expected to include specialized courses, language immersion, and local cultural studies.

2.Master’s Semester Exchange Agreement: A primary achievement was the progress made toward a formal agreement for semester-long exchanges at the master’s level. This initiative is designed to provide graduate students with the opportunity to undertake a semester of study at the partner university, earning credits that contribute to their degree requirements at their home institution.

3.Strengthened Institutional Ties: The meeting served to reaffirm the commitment of both UNJ and Shanghai Normal University to deepen their academic partnership. The dialogue covered potential future collaborations in joint research, faculty exchanges, and dual-degree programs.

Dr. Mutia of UNJ stated, “This collaboration with Shanghai Normal University is a strategic milestone for UNJ. Providing our students with access to high-quality academic experiences in Shanghai, a global academic hub, is crucial for preparing them as future leaders. We are particularly excited about the master’s exchange, which opens doors for our graduate students’ professional and academic growth.”

Sri Rahayu added, “The detailed discussions today were highly constructive. We have laid a concrete foundation for programs that are not only academically rigorous but also culturally enriching. We look forward to seeing the first cohort of students benefit from this exchange in the near future.”

Dean of Faculty of Education, Shanghai Normal University, Huang Haitao  expressed equal enthusiasm, highlighting the value of welcoming Indonesian students and fostering mutual understanding and academic excellence between the two universities.

Following the successful meeting, working groups from both institutions will finalize the operational details, including curriculum alignment, credit transfer mechanisms, and application procedures. The first exchanges under these new programs are anticipated to commence as early as Summer 2026 and the 2026-2027 academic year.

This initiative aligns with broader trends in global higher education, emphasizing the importance of international exposure and collaboration in shaping a globally competent workforce.
